Since obtaining my Masters of Social Work degree from Monmouth University in 2001, I have found a metaphor that accurately summarizes the role of the therapist. I believe that an effective therapist is that person who walks past while you are assembling a 500+ piece puzzle. That person is able to put a few pieces together quite quickly while you have been staring at the puzzle for hours. We are all putting together our own puzzles. We are all staring at our lives and circumstances to the point where we have lost our objectivity. My job is to be that person who helps you find the next piece of your puzzle.
To be open and receptive to new puzzle pieces, it is imperative that we feel safe enough to accept the help. Vulnerability requires emotional and physical safety. The acceptance of oneself, one's relationships, and the practice of meaningful change begins in a therapeutic space that fosters a growth mindset.
However, change doesn't always occur easily. Change isn't usually considered unless we are uncomfortable enough in our circumstances to necessitate a contemplation of such change. If you are reading this, then you might be experiencing this threshold of discomfort. If this is you, then "Welcome."
My experience in therapy has traveled the lifespan. I began my practice in a residential facility for children who had suffered trauma. Since then, I have worked in non-profit organizations as well in a private practice setting. In addition to therapy, I provide workshops and trainings that include the topics of couple's communication, anger management, coping with anxiety, professional motivation and inspiration, and employee engagement.
My style of practice is one that focuses on emotional safety, nonjudgement, and acceptance. I practice the principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Neurobiology, Spirituality, Attachment Theory, and I am Certified in Imago Relationship Therapy. If you are interested in learning more, please explore the rest of my website and/or contact me if you desire. At this time, my practice is solely virtual telehealth within the states of Maryland (#13547), Pennsylvania (#CW015080), and Delaware (#Q5-0000114). Thank you for visiting.
